Update From SConFire

MURRELLS INLET - A Firefighter is in critical condition at MUSC after collapsing of heat exhaustion and then going into cardiac arrest while fighting a apartment fire.
While ventilating the roof, the Firefighter began to suffer from heat exhaustion afterwhich he went into cardiac arrest. The Firefighter was transported to the Waccamaw Community Hospital, and then to Georgetown Hospital. Later in the evening OMNIFLIGHT transported the Firefighter to MUSC where he remains in stable but critical condition.
The Firefighter is not being named at this time in compliance with the families wishes.
Murrell's Inlet-Garden City Firefighters assisted by Midway, Surfside, and Horry County Fire Rescue battled the blaze for over an hour before it was brought under control.
Officials state the fire started on a porch of an upstairs apartment and then traveled into the attic. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
